Addition To a Cherished Family Home

---

This two-story addition gives a cherished family lake house new life as a place the owners’ grown children will want to come back to. The original circa-1880 Gothic Revival “temple and wing” farmhouse had lost its charm to decades of hasty remodels. The new design reimagines that form in contemporary terms, with a dramatically glazed gable that echoes the original roofline and a generous cedar screened porch for lakeside dining. Durable, low-maintenance materials, including cedar siding, a standing seam metal roof, and oversized gutters, mark the new addition against the original house. The project is a restrained, comfortable retreat that honors the property’s farmhouse roots.
